Outer Limits 4x4 Board

I'm positive I'm not the first, but has anyone had good experience with a truck wrecker out Dandenong, Vic, way. I'm heading out tommorrow to see if I can't suss out something to fit beside a chassis rail with a drain plug and some sort of fitting I can mage good with.

Anyone had any experieces with this that can help me? Or just as good to have a crack...!?

whilist your out hunting for a tank can you keep your eye's open for one for me

i need it to be approx 1500mm long & only 150 to 180mm diameter & prefer somthing light weight

me and GQjohnno were talkin about a day trip to the wreckers soon too....... none seem to be around here anymore

Go down to supercheap and buy one of those cheap compressors.....
About $90 or so....
Strip the electric motor and nasty compressor off it and you are left with a great air tank with mounting points and all the air fittings etc included !!!
Great value !!!

The 90 buck ones are nearly identical size to a truck air tank...
You can also get a smaller one
The best part is they are lighter than the heavy truck ones, so less weight....good stuff!

also got one from gasweld the other day for an air supply for my plasma cutter......tank on that one is around 10cm's across.

Just contact PROBAG, there alloy tanks are sweet, and they make a perfect size to fit patrol wagons too!

The small grey ones are 21L tanks. I've got one here. Go in to a Supercheap and see if they have any faulty returns. I bought one with a dead compressor for 20 bucks. They had 10 to choose from. I don't know if they are currently returning the faulties to a supplier or if they are destroying them.

i think they may be destroying them seen a few faulty ones for sale, and a mate got busted stealing one outta a bin

ps. I'm new to this - what do we know about pressure switches.. Am I still going to need one? Or will there be something that works in this compressor I'm buying? Or still need to get one?! Hooking it up to a maxAirII in the back, plumbed out through a watertight gland in the bottom of the quarter panel, to the tank, then to outlets front and rear. Thoughts? Has anyone used one of those electrical glands, they screw in both sides with a soft rubber centre to seal up the hose goign through.

I can get ones off of trailers we have replaced, but they are pretty big suckers. Generally they go in the scrap bin otherwise. They have mounts on each end, a couple of different sized fittings on them as well.
I reckon they'd be 60cm long and about 30cm across. A truck wrecker should have a big range of sizes as they are all different to suit where the manufacturer puts them on the truck.

All the truck air tanks i have bought in the past have been alloy. Usually pay $20 each for them at a truck wreckers.

I couldn't even find a bloody wrecker, but I got one of those $98 ones from supercrap for $20 as it was busted!

Pretty much any supercheap.....they only go for about 20 mins and the rings in the compressor let go

Yer ill round up some pics, tank was $100 inc postage, perfect fit under the drivers floor, between the sill and the rail

they are a minitruck and custom company, but they sell all sorts of airtanks, fittings, valves, airline etc etc..

I had 2 3L alloy airtanks in my rodeo from those guys for the air suspension, i think they were $100 each?

Isn't there a pressure switch, pressure relief valve already on the one you bought?

There's a release valve (130psi) I think. The pressure switch is 240v isn't it? Sparkies? It's beyond my knowledge.

a pressure switch is only a on/off switching. Doesn't matter if 240v or 12v. I'm sure it will be fine.

They have been used by others.
