GU Factory Diff Lock problems

Hi,
My mates Ti spec GU has been having recent problems with the factory vacuum locker. It has had difficulty engaging and can some times disengage by itself. It also has been making some faint clicking sounds aswell.
We jacked the car off the ground and tried turning both wheels to test if the locker was working and found that it seemed to work when the wheel was turned forward, but would disengage immediately when rolled in reverse. The diff lock light on the dash seemed to flash aswell.
It seems as if the locking mechanism in the diff isnt fully locking.
I know GQs have solenoid issues but I havent heard of GUs having any issues.
Any ideas?
