If you had a choice between a 12H-T or a 1HZ with an after market Turbo
ie. Safari,AXT or Turboglide.

Which ever one chosen would be given a compleate overhaul.

To be put in a HJ45 Troopie (replacing a 2H) and used for for expedition type of driving.

Which would you choose and Why?

Would be so much cheeper to just go an 8.

But to answer your question, the 1hz with after market turbo. Why? because they hall arse over the 12ht (this is the old 60 series turbo motor, yes?)

12ht. Will bolt in, exhaust is on the same side, direct injection, factory turbo set up, very reliable, goes hard. The downside is that they are hard to get and vey expensive.

Thanks for the input guys keep'em coming.

This is a bit of a hard decision. At least for me anyway.

So a few more questions, trying to get clarity.

I'm hearing that the 12H-T are harder to find and expensive. Also what about parts a few years down the road?

Any one have some approximant prices that 12H-T and 1HZ are going for? Ready for an overhaul.

Will a 1HZ freshly overhauled and turbo'ed go 300km RELIABLY? Not pushed hard, making 160 to 180 HP.

How much more work would it be to put a 1HZ Turbo'ed in a HJ 45/47 over putting in a 12H-T?

12h-t around 3k,

because the 12ht is direct injection and the 1hz is indirect the 1hz is slightly inefficient over the 12ht but does have a smoother idle, also the 1hz needs preheating were the 12ht does not. If a 1hz has a proper turbo set up will go very hard but i believe the indirect injection means it more important to use an intercooler when using high boost levels, were the direct injection can handle a little higher intake air temperatures.
Parts are still no problems for the 12ht still very popular overseas and easily rebuilt. They have a better injector pump that doesnt require adjustment even after increasing boost significantly.
I believe the factory turbo 12ht, even though its becoming aged is by far the best, especially if common reliability is what you seek.
