Lately I have seen a lot of vans with the exhaust out the side
just behind the drivers cab
Is This Legal {as] I thought NOT
.....But if so it opens up a can of worms

IE
Ford transit
Just to name one

it depends on what the van manufacturers clasify as a door... if the rear door is classed as a 'boot', then the exhaust doesnt have to come out behind it...

exhaust must exit the vehicle behind the rear most door....

My F truck runs functional laker pipes, and they are nearly legal, as they are a certain distance behind the rearmost opening window, and tilt down.

all I need to do to them to make them 100%, is fit heat shields to them.

must exit behind most rearward opening, this includes windows in a 2 door etc...

The exhaust must not exit horizontally to the side, because other people in other cars like to have their windows open at the traffic lights beside you.

This is in the ADRs. Look it up on the net. It is there somewhere in the DOTARS regulations. I read it myself.

I have been told that exhausts can exit from the side on the drivers side but not on the passanger side, to prevent exhaust being directed straight to the footpath.

although i am not sure if you angle the pipe down, would this solve the problem?

i am thinking of running my exhaust through the passanger side and angling it onto the rear tyre. is this legal? or more to the point, would it be noticable enough to be pulled over for it in QLD?

in vic The exhaust must exit, 100mm past the last sealed opening, and at least 100mm from the tyres.
