The spare will be secured! ;)

But in the last 10 minutes i have been thinking and i am going to mount the spare like that! And cut the rear door around it! SHould look awsome i reckon what do you guys think?

The rear is one of marias ute style soft tops with the ute part gone! Thats just the back wall! That bottom bit with nothing there will be infilled with a steel frame and sheet metal over that with the press studs holding it too that!

why not angle it a bit more and still use the full rear door in there?

doesn't it fit flat on the floor?

I want some thing more custom and this way it saves just that little more room!

Laying it flat would take up heaps of room and there would be no room for an esky..... ;)

The only problem I can see is somebody will steal your spare ;)

whats wrong with the rear door? You could always convert it into a drop down tailgate like mine.
Leave th spare standing up as they take up too much space any other way.

or lay it flat, put some ply accross the wheel arches and then your esky can go on top of that. trayback style

Yep, suzukiboy, the Baja race look is cool, but race cars only put the spare like that because they need to fix the weight distribution for jumps and they don't carry anything.

If you mount your spare like that you'll regret the lost cargo room. Cutting up a tailgate to do it seems like a real shame too. Junk will be escaping around the tyre and you've eliminated about 70% of the usable load space in the car. If it is a weight balance thing, take the deathstick off the rollcage, it will help heaps more than lowering the spare.

IMHO leave it on the back door or lay it flat on the floor and false floor over it.

i reckon it looks good mate. but i think make it a bit more upright tho...

heres a photo-chop I did ages ago of how i wanted to mount mine. not sure if im still gonna go this way however. gonna get some driving in first then hopefully the best way to mount it will just come to me.
(not my car, just a random pic i found...)

setup like that Dee you still have nearly all the load area. Make sure it's mounted strong though - the tyre will rip the floor pretty easily.

Thanks for all the points guys really apreciate it!

I was looking at it and with the spare mounted the way i want it i think there would be the same if not more area to carry stuff! By the time you mount the spare standing up then there go's a 3rd of room because you can't stack on the drivers side of the spare any more! Where as if it's on the angle you have the dry area under it and you can still load up all the bottom then have a bit of stacking room!

If i do the false floor it would have to have tie down points all over it and theres alot of lost space under it!

If i have the spare on more of an angle i will not be able to cut the bottom of the door out! It would end up like 2 barn doors! ;)

I want to do this because no one has done it before and i think it would look and work if done right! The check out would have to be pretty perfect to not let anythink come out of the gap!

Keep the advice coming people!
