Are you serious?
Thats like asking whats better for flipping eggs a metal or plastic spatula..
12.5 have a larger contact area, seem to be better on rocks.
11.5 being a narrower tyre seem to cut threw mud bettter. The 10.5s better again, but all up its much of a muchness..
As for actual size I guess it depends on what class you want to race in. Id say some comps 36" simex don't fit in trophy class.. So its up tp you I guess.

It's been proven time and again that the three lug 36 is better for winch comps as it 'handles' better at high speed and provides more flotation for deep mud (ground clearance not so much of an issue). You could have won the VicWinch with a 4WD Race Truck and not bothered with a winch or crossply tyres..........go a 37 X 17 radial and you'll eat the oppisition....
just stiring up some comment on the comp scene............
What ya think....??

dont think they'll let me race in the trophy class any way with a v8 and coil conversion. i heard that some of the comp guys were going back to 35x11.5's over the 36's. BS or true? aimimg at events like cliffhanger and vic winch.... etc

In New Zealand almost all the comp guys have gone back to the 35x11.5
But we have different terrain to you guys

The 35 x 11.5 is a narrower and lighter tyre allowing engines (especially Diesels) to rev a bit quicker.
As stated above 2 lugs clear better than three lugs in mud.
But Vic winch (certainly this year) and cliffhanger the three lugs may be better.
