Lane Change Test - Welded Rear Diff

Anyone had any experience with this???

Would a welded rear make the zuk more or less difficult to handle during an avoidance manouvre? Obviously it will be more prone to slide out rather than lift a wheel, more difficult to steer unless you were used to it - but do you think it would be a disadvantage/advantage, and why do you think that?

Speaking of which - is a welded rear even legal in WA?? lol

A welded rear certainly changes the way it drives, my sierra under steers then i steer more, it grips like a go cart....weird stuff. Feels like it flexes then steers itself lol. Freeway felt normal but....Different story in wet, 1.3 give it a blast of throttl expect some drift style action.....im getting a 1.6injected now. gonna be so easy to flick sideways.....

welded + 1.6 mpfi is def sideways in wet. almost dangerous but def fun.

lane change, i'd be more worried about suspension lean before the welded but also beleive it is illegal for on road also. same as spool.

i would go for open or lsd for lane change not auto locker also as i wouldnt want it locking in on track.

if u need a loaner 3.7/3.9 rear for the test let me know as i should have on here.

i might just do that nic!!! Ill investigate further with DPI and my engineer... was just seeing if anyone had any experience with the high speed swervy stuff.

I drove it welded for about 9 months with the 1.6 and weber 32/36 - was awesome - i think the handling improved personally - but it took a good 2 weeks before i felt that way about it!!! before that it was just insanely scary on any corner (too much throttle coming out of the corners).

Not toooooo worried about the suspension as yet - ultra long travel zuk bluemax shocks are fitted, so its valved right... and the lux leaves are pretty firm when run as a full pack.

I vote more difficult to drive, only because it will be harder to catch and the transition from understeer to over steer is dramatic. . If you're trying to pass a lane change as part of an engineers cert then leave it open as it is illegal and you'll fail if it is detected.

i've given up on posting builupd reports etc - last time i did that the prject went on hold for nearly 2 years... haha so now im just keeping my mouth shut =)

Brian at suzistore (suziwest) has been doing a pearler of a job on it so far too, and my engineer is VERY impressed with their work.
