How many free trails do you guys have available for off-road use? How many are private land that you have to pay to use? It seems that our sport is being challenged more every year by people trying to close all the hot spots down by gates.

We have the same problem here lots of the good (hard) trails are being closed down

most are still free but seeing more and more "parks" being opened and charging for entry

Unfortunately it sorta seems that the parks are alos closing as fast as they open due to the bloody insurance/liability crap - so we still end up with less places to go 4x4ing....

What's the main reason they are shutting down trails? We are getting some trails reopened by fighting back ...We really try hard with trail cleanups ..also taking out what we take in plus some..Do you guys have any junked rigs left on trails ect.?

OOTJ, mostly the main reason is as Wooders stated, but lately (within 12 months ago) most of our southern forested areas and common trails / bush tracks, were extremely damaged by bush fires, hence our wonderful Parks Department closed alot of tracks due to fallen trees (isn't that why we carry chainsaws :? ) and trees so badly burnt they could fall any time, big bloody trees over here too!... as Wooders said again, its mostly due to Liability claims etc. I work and live in the Australian High Country, most people of any rapport in the area blame the Parks Dept to some degree, due to poor land / bush management. They basicaly should've performed more controlled burn offs and more frequently.
As garbage on the tracks goes there is none, very clean in general, never seen junked rigs laying around except for at the bottom of cliffs on the roads to our ski resorts (their mostly not accessible to retrieve even to bulldozers.
