Different Rocky Models - Also i have a noise...

I think i posted about my noise before but I think it went away and now its back or I got a new one...
Seems to be some roughness, in the steering somewhere...
Above 70km/h I get a rough noise which SEEMS to be coming from the left wheel direction but it is amplified if i apply slight pressure on the steering wheel turning left. If i go right it makes it quieter or go all together.
I have another side question though. What differences are there between the Deisel and the Petrol rocky's.
I'm talking the same wheelbase but as far as I know its just the engine thats different. Is this right? Running gear is the same? What about the gearbox?
Bit of a general question I know but if anyone has info on more difference between the Deisel and Petrol ones please let me know!

Apart from the obvious differences regarding electrics, dash and fuel, the main differences are, the heater hoses go through the firewall on the passenger side on a petrol, and the drivers side on a diesel. Diff ratios are different, 3.36363636 for Diesel, and 5.29?? I think for the petrols, and in the gearbox department, the bellhousing and the gearbox input shaft are the differences there.

Ha ha,
I'd be getting the petrol to rip parts off for my deisel... Dont need anything in particular right now but is there enough on the petrol to warrent spending a couple of hundred on it?

Is it a tyre noise or a mechical noise like a cv or bearing .
Most of the petrol driveline wont be much use but all the panels and interior are the same.
Petrols ok if you have enough cylinders

I'm not sure... It kinda sounds like tyre noise but I am pretty confident it's more like a cv or bearing or something.
Havent had a chance to get in and take a good look but figured I'd put it out there. The noise has gotten worse though. Now does it most of the time between like 50-80km/h and still is worse if slight pressure turning left and is a little worse if turning right... It's got me well confused.
One thing I had been thinking was that the allignment was out before... So I don't know if that would cause odd tyre noise but yeah. Very strange.
So what about driveshafts and hubs or steering knuckles and stuff on the petrol?

From outward appearances, there seems no difference between the petrol and diesel in respect to things like front hubs, axles, drivelines, ect. I can compare, as I have both a petrol and a diesel.

So I just went out and bought it.
It's got a bit of rust in the body. Springs look pretty good, rear shocks are probably gone, front is solid as mostly everything else is in decent condition.
So I now have my Deisel which is registered and an unregistered petrol which I will rape for parts!
Anyone happen to know how hard it is to remove and replace side windows in the canopy at the back?

The noise in from the front left wheel could be a loose bearing, they have a habbit of coming loose on the left side.

Ok cheers,
I did recently do all my bearings and such so I'll have to pull it apart and check it all and I might as well check both sides!

I got fibreglass I want to get rid of, among other things.
As far as changing the rear side windows, why bother. just change the whole top. It would be easier I think.

Coz the whole top on mine is black and the other one is white

Want a silver one?
I didn't think of that. Good luck. On mine it looks like its sorta moulded in, maybe just the rubber and some sealant holding it there no bolts.

I need a white one
Dont care what colour really as long as its not cracked.(mine ended up on its lid a few years ago its a lot tougher then i thought just a coupla cracks)
So if someones got a spare let me know what you want for it.
Really just need sunroof and surround.

You want the surround as well? Or just the sunroof. 6 pack and its yours, I've got a white one too. On my yellow parts rocky. Leeton might be a bit of a drive for ya tho.

I think it's sad that so many of us have a "Parts Rocky" but at least it's sad in a good way...
Yeah for now I'm keeping the white one as a spare incase I have some sort of a mishap.
Will be selling some bits though as some are of no use to me but depends when I get around to ripping things apart, don't know how I'm going to go about it... Might strip it completely into two lots... Stuff I want and Stuff I'll sell/get rid of...

Id be hanging onto (or giving them to me

) any driveline and mech: parts you have .
I broke the little gear box mount on the side (Been floggin it knew something would brake sooner or later)
Went to WARREN TOYOTA were been seeing the same old dude for about 15 years he told me TOYOTA were phasing out DAI-PARTS and i only got my mount because it was the same as the 96 Rocky.

Yeah, there are alot of bits that are different though to the diesel so I'll prob flog them off...
But anything thats the same I suspect I will keep for spares... Got enough space to store them just gotta clean bits up and organise them as I rip em out...
Only problem is how to get rid of bits at the very end... Like chassis and stuff i guess...

Scrap steel mobs will take whatever you can't use. And whatever they don't want should fit in a solo bin, with a bit of cutting
You say you have plenty of room? I need to find a place in Sydney to store my spare rocky + parts.

?

Well I have plenty of room to store one and to pull mine in when i need to work on it but get it out of there quick...
Thats about all I have room for, ha ha.
So My Noise is still there... Think it's a little better. Just swapped over the hub mechs to switch 2->4wd... Like to lock in the front axles.
And while I had that all up I checked and the left bearing was a little loose... I just nipped her up a bit and the noise i think is better but still there a little. The one on the right wasn't loose...
