I have 5" of suspension lift. I pulled mine out because I broke two one after another. I haven't had any trouble. But mine is off road only and I run dual cases so the shaft is longer. I'm sure there rebuildable.

No they are not standard for 95 model cruisers. Yes they are rebuildable. Cardan joints are used to eliminate singular joint angle problems. If it is standard length i would leave it in, unless you can get a hold of a standard front tailshaft & try it.

You will find if your constant 4wd it vibrates bad v SAHARAx put one in his and made a great improvement he's also going to part time kit for front end that'll help it not run the front diff all the time too.

pm rvh 96 he did Troys and also has them on his gu (he's at browns plains). It'll hurt if you go back to standard and it vibrates then still have to fix d c any way $$$ do it once and right, saves more in the long run. dont learn the hard way :)

G'day Mate, do not and i mean do not run a standard shaft with constant 4wd!!! from 40km/h and up mine vibrated like a mofo, it was like a foot massager under accelaration, im gonna also put a part time kit in mine, i wanted the double cardin just so when im running up and down the beach i dont have to continually flick the hubs in and out going from hard sand to soft sand. i got the double cardin done by RVH96 like mick said, its not a Toyota DC its some american job and i tell you what it doesnt look like its gonna break anytime soon, ive also got 10mm gearbox packers.

Do it right the first time, it might cost you alot more but at least its one thing you can cross off the list!

thanks guys, i have pulled the front shaft out of my old mans truck and im going to try it for a few days to see if there is any vibration. his is only a inch lower then mine and just got back a 6 month trip around oz and his has no vibration. i have never heard of people have vibration problems in 80's, maybe i have been under a rock.

hey shavedtoy

I had vibration problems in my 80 too (4"lift) but only after I fitted caster correction plates which point the front diff pinion down too much. I modified my front diff housing so I had correct caster angles without caster plates and dont need a double cardan joint. I wanted to keep fulltime 4wd and didnt want to spend money on the DC joint and tailshaft mods
feedback I had when making inquiries was that DC joints wont always get rid of bad vibes and wear quicker than a single uni too. (would be interesting to know what people on Outers think of the rate of wear and tear on DC joints)

if your happy with the way your truck handles apart from vibrations then its probably easiest to just get your DC rebuilt

looks like i will have to just rebuild it now, who ever fitted it changed the flange on the front of the transfer so a standard shaft wont fit . i dont know what my dc joint is out of now?
