I need to know if I can source a 75/78/79 series ute cab, will it bolt onto my FJ75 series troopy chassis?

The body on my troopy is seriously stuffed, and I want a ute anyway, so can I make one without too much dramas....?

75 ute body on 75 troopy chassis:
Looking at the diagrams in the chassis manual and comparing vehicles, i'm 99% sure it will fit. All the body mounts up to the back of the cab are the same. However, the mounts behind the cab are different (taller and heavier on the utes). Shouldn't be a problem making a tray to suit though. Also remember the troopy doors are different to the utes. AFAIK, forward of the windscreen all the bodywork is identical. I'm in the same boat as you - except that i don't have the thousands of dollars to buy a ute cab. I got quoted $2500 for the doors alone.

I'm not sure about the 79 series cab on the 75 chassis - i'm pretty sure they'll be different (I think they're actually a fair bit bigger). 78 series is a troopy.

All the body mounts apart from the back of the cab will bolt straight up, it will depend on what cab you buy as to how far you will need to move the body mounts, as far as i can see you have a few options.

I'm currently negoitating on 2x 75 series ute bodies complete ( he says) and apparently there all good except for some rust in the windscreen frame (common) i will keep you informed of the progress of this deal and whether or not they are worth while.

Secondly i have a complete mwb body that you could use as a big extra cab if you run it in its factory configuration, other than that you could cut the body down and have a more useable extra cab see pics below of some alternatives

Do the PC's have the same wheelbase as the ute's?

On a students income - not for a while yet! 2.5k was a price for 2nd hand doors from a wrecker. I imagine the best way would be to buy a shitty old ute and fix/swap the body. Unfortunately the drivetrain always seems to be in much better nick than the body - hard to find a cheapie!

The wheelbase of the troopy vs ute are the same (for the 75 series). 78/79's have a different wheelbase.

Right you are Ben, the 3rd row of body mounts are 247mm further back on the troopy, but are the same width apart. Interesting that the chassis frame dimension diagrams in the chassis/body manual aren't drawn to scale!
