hey guys i am looking at changing the auto box out of my car and putting in a manual box, the car is a 1990 swb with the tb42 motor. i know i will need clutch, flywheel and different brake pedals and all that stuff,
someone has told me i will need a different wiring loom just wondering if this is true and also are the gearbox cross members the same?
any help or info will be greatly appricated
thanks,
stann

i am pretty sure the manual loom does not have all the required bits for the auto box, this may have changed in the eraly ones or late ones. you need connections from the auto computer in the left kick panel to the gearbox. ( these interface in the main loom also for things like rpm signals) then you have the kickdown, the inhibitor wiring etc.

you will need

shifter
tunelplate
auto transfercase lever,linkages
shifter surround
wiring
computer
engine backing plate
flexplate+ bolts+
torque converter and bolts ( i would get the converter serviced/rebuilt)
auto brake pedal
TPS if yours is a carby + tps wireing

i have thrown out so many looms its not funny :) your best bet is to get one out of a wreck complete with TPS and computer.

Cheers,
Jes

aaaaa hehehehe

sorry bloke

:D

in that case, you need

floor plate
carpet ( or butcher something up)
shifter boot
brake and clutch lever
manual transfercase lever/linkages
engine backing plate
flywheel+ bolts
clutch + bolts
SPIGOT bearing/Bush ( important)
clutch master, slave and hydrolic line
crossmember is the same.

as for wireing, all you need to do is connect teh same wires from the auto transfer to the new transfer, and then reroute the wires for the reverse selector, also bridge the start inhibitor wires also.

You dont need to change any wiring.

You may find plenty of people willing to swap you... more going TO auto than from it.

you need some shop manuals for the wiring diagram. you may find some diagrams on the internet.

you can also just trace the wires while putting the vehicle in N and P for the inhibitor and R for reverse.
