Need some input. Yet another "which engine" threa

So I've lunched the 2F in the 40. I have 3 options but I'm leaning towards 1 in particular.

I'd like to go down the least complicated, bang for buck path but these are the engines available to me at the moment.

1: 4ltr multipoint inline 6 from an EL falcon. Engine, wiring and computer $880 ( I can probably get a whole car for that but thats a wreckers price)

2: 1UZFE 4ltr V8, engine, wiring and computer. $1100

3: 1FZFE 4.5ltr inline 6 (80 series). Engine, wiring and computer. $1750

All these packages come with all ancilliaries. Air flow meters where applicable, alternator/compressor/power steering pump, etc.

I'm leaning towards the falcon donk because it fits my criteria for cheap, easy and least complicated. I havent priced adapters yet but I imagine the 2 toyota engines are going to be the most expensive there plus the wiring is more complicated.

Any input would be great. Tips on where to get the best adapters (marks/dellows/CRS) and anything else.

Is there any chance the 1FZFE will mount straight up to my 60 series 5 speed? I doubt it but would like to be pleasantly surprised. :D

i'm a fan of the falcon donks too... but you can't fault the 1FZFE. it's got torque to burn, and is easy to power up. way overbuilt. guy in SA ran about 30psi into it on stock bottom end. the first thing to break was the custom intake. second problem was he saw that it was losing power at full boost.

turns out the head studs were stretching, dropping compression. it still ran after it did that tho. new head studs and it was a rocket.

i'd skip the 1 uz - good for a lux where space is tight, but don't think it'd suit the 40. not enough low down torque.

as for adapters, if you find a rolled/rear ended 80 series going cheap, swap the lot over, you get a stronger gearbox and transfer (full time 4x4 in the right models). you can use the diffs to coil it, or sell them off to recoup your losses... wiring won't be too hard, steal the whole loom and computer from the rolled one, should be pretty easy then.

Mate buy a Falcon out of the paper for $1000 take the motor and wiring sell the rest. Buy a Marks adaptor to the 4spd box or run an auto and 60's T-case.

Your welcome to come look at my setup if that helps at all. Injected 250x-flow (4.1ltr), c4 auto, 60's t-case 68% reduction.

The motor only rev's to like 4000rpm but they pull all the way there!

Yeah I'm with you both. The 1UZ is out of the question for me at this stage. I love the 1FZFE in my old mans 80 series and reckon it would go real well in my 40 but just dont know if it mounts up or if anyone makes an adapter for it. Buying it with the box and transfer case would be pretty exy and I imagine makes for a very long drivetrain (not much of a tailshaft left for a shorty).

I also agree that the ford motor is a good swap for 40's too. Benny I reckon if I go for the ford motor I'll stick to my 5 speed for the engine braking, reduction gears are off the cards for a while I think. The ford swap as I said will be the cheapest and probably the most practical for me at this stage. Just have to find the right car for it. So any tips on adapters?

ps: thanks for the call Benny. Lub u long time. :D

That's because you've obviously never driven one in a landcruiser

6's generally have a longer stroke and more down low torque?

because they don't often get put into cruisers, i haven't had the chance. the only ones i've seen work well in Lux's had the advantage of reduction gears.

They're good, best not to assume, maybe wait till you've actually driven one ;)

Suprised the hell out of me anyway

I simply cant afford the 1UZ conversion at the moment. I just picked up a complete EF Falcon with a good 4L engine for $600. By the time I've removed the bits I need I should be able to sell the rest off and possibly make money on it. Now I just have to decide wether to get the adapters from Dellows or CRS. Marks only do the ford auto to toyota transfer adapter and I really want to retain my 5 speed. $695 for the kit from CRS vs $1045 for the Dellow kit. The Dellow kit is more comprehensive while the CRS kit requires some extra work to make it fit.

I'd love to hear from someone who has done the ford conversion.

sounds like he has never measured one either, they are quite large in size (physically quite similar to a 460 Ford big block)

they are wide (WIIIIDE biatches) they are very tall due to the 90deg V and the amount of crap up top, with the big assed plenum

they are long-ish too for a V8, with all the crap on the front
