Ford Falcon AU Thermo fans

thinking of putting some electric fans on the rangie does anyone know whats involved in installing Ford AU twin fans? are any fancy brackets needed or is it a simple install?

Hi,
Bit of grinding of the shroud and some sikaflex work, but they're a really good fit. Think mine are fake EL's. Bit of work around the bottom rad hose. I made aluminium brackets to take the weight to the upper rad mount bolts.
One runs all the time, the other has an adjustable thermo switch with the sender in the top rad hose.
Cost $195 for the fans and shroud and $50 for the switch. (Jaycar has a kit one for about $25). Would be better with both fans on adjustable switches because most of the time the temp gauge sits on only about 1/4. Have never had it over half on the gauge, low range, 40 degrees etc. This is with a 350 Chev.

Hi,
Try fitting Nissan Pintara fans, they're cheap $30 from the wreckers and fit a little better.
They still require about the same level of mods, but have a little more clearance.
I have a Magna thermo swith in the radiator and have it wired so that both fans switch on at 190 degrees, with a 4 core Radiator the gauge sits no higher than 1/4. The fans only come on when sitting in traffic or shuffling around in the bush.

With my AU fans I just trimmed the bottom off the shroud and the two brackets on the side where they normally bolt into the Ford. Then drilled a couple of holes in the top and screwed it into the existing holes in my radiator where the original Rover shroud screwed in. Bottom is currently just cable tied in, but thats me being lazy - you could just screw it in same as the top. The only difference might be that my radiator is lifted up to match the bodylift, so I might have more clearance underneath than you do.
Since you're running a Wolf, you should have a fan output from it that you can use to turn them on at a set temperature. I've done this with my megasquirt, and wired that output through a 3 way toggle switch (Top position is computer controlled, middle position is off for going through water etc, and bottom position is always on in case the ECU output fails or doing heavy towing)

Yeah the wolf will control them ATM it uses the air con fans as a back up to the engine fan all works well i am just sick of the sound the engine fan makes at it seems to be on all the time now so the clutch must be screwed and it's cheaper to buy brand new AU fans with a shroud then a good 2nd hand viscus fan

I had an XF viscous fan and clutch on my 88, straight fit and easy to find. It was noisy though.

Why stop with just the fans? I've got the whole aluminium radiator and fans set up in my 350 Chev powered Rangie. No overheating problems anymore
ANd they are as cheap as chips too

Hi all, I have twin nissan Pintara fans (I think) on mine. (standard radiator and 4.4) They both run off a craig davis type thermo switch (sensor in the top radiator hose). They were easy to modify and fit and work very well. I have them running through a toggle switchand fuse to a relay so I can switch them off for river crossings if I need to. The only problem I ever had was when the relay died, All I did was join the wires at the relay so they ran all the time. No dramas. A long time since I put them on but think they were pretty cheap form the wreckers.

I fitted an Au V8 radiator and Twin Thremos to my 4.4 rangie was not hard at all and can sit in low range with a/c going in 35+ weather no worries.

being a 93 auto rangie i have the bigger radiator with the oil cooler lines etc i must say even full of mud atm with a/c on and 1 1/2 drive in traffic on the long car park some call the west gate (
) gauge on the cluster never moves but the wolf tells me it ranges from 93 to 101 deg so i have no problems with keeping her cool. It's just the stupid vacuum cleaner sound that shits me!! I am after brand new as i want reliability out it. watching a few on ebay atm will see what happens

Is the AU V8 radiator a different size to the 6 cyl one? Or is it just the same radiator with outlets in a different position?
