What oil do you use - gearbox and transfer

I currently run CONOCO SAE 75W-90 gear oil in my gearbox and
transfer in my 94 lux 2.8 td, Im on my 3rd box and 2nd transfer. It does cop a bit of abuse but they seem to make a worn out bearing noise for a while (2-3 months) and then just blow up, ie: bearings collapsing and stripping gears. Ive been lucky I have never damaged my duel case. Should I go a heavier gear oil for more extreme pressure??
The gearboxes and transfers are always in good nic before they are installed.

Thicker is not always better.
Use a synthetic of the same grade.

I use a slightly lighter grade oil in my 80series. box was getting noisy and very difficult to shift gears with specified grade of oil.
with the lighter grade oil it is quieter and gear shifts are no problem
I use Castrol VMX-M SAE 75W85
Ive been running this oil for over 12 months and definitely seems to be better lubricated by the lighter oil

Is you 3l stock-ish ?
The gearbox's should last longer than that even with the oil your running. I would be more looking at oil levels and is it flowing properly through the twin case adapter etc

Its a standard 3L with a turbo thrown on, always check oil levels in everything, learned that long ago
I dont think 4500 rpm, duels and 37's are helping it either.
Couldn't of happened on a worse hill, couldn't back down so had to winch for about an hour up the friggen hill, with a lowmount
and at 3am sunday morning.

I run Mobil heavy duty 80/90 gear oil in my Zook and it gets abused big time but no bearing problems ever. Mate of mine uses Mobil 85W140 in his diffs (Jeep Wrangler on 35's) and all clear so far.

80/90 in the gearbox and transfer and 85/140 in the diffs.

i think alot of it will be the way it's driven. Mines been getting worse and worse so i might re build the case and run some of this oil treatment stuff the old man used to sell. can get you some it's like 40 bucks and thats'll be enough to do diffs box case and have some left over.

Castrol EPX 85/140 in the G/Box Transfer and 90 wt in the diffs with lockrights fited.
