Outer Limits 4x4 Board

Have just installed a front complete swivel hub kit including bearings to my gq and cannot get the c clip that goes onto the axle before fitting the free wheeling hub.Any ideas would be great.

Make sure the thrust washer betwen the stub axle and cv is around the rite way. the tapered inner part of the washer goes towards the bell of the cv

are you using circlip pliers?

if so put a small blade into the groove and lever the cv outwards slightly then with your other hand and the circlip pliers put the ring on.

if your not using them you will need a mate n a few screw drivers and patience

Iam quite sure i got the brass thrust washer around the right way and i cant even see the groove the clip is supposed to sit in,might try to tighten the wheel bearings a bit more if that doesn't work i may have to check that the bearings were fitted properly.Thanks for replys.

it can be hard. you need to pull the axle out with something

tightening the wheel bearings wont do anything as it is the sub axle that is in the way in most cases. try pulling it out a bit and if that doesnt work lift the whole diff out on its side and the bell will slide out a bit and will allow you to get the axle out a bit more. i had to do this on mine after i put it back together for the umpeenth time.

What Chunder said. The axle slides in if you put too much pressure on it whilst trying to get the circlip back on. The Tojos have a threaded hole in the centre so you can screw in a bolt to hold the axle out with. You may have to carefully use a pair of needle nose pliers to pull the axle out so you can see the circlip groove. Then use a small screwdriver with the tip in the groove to stop the axle sliding back in whilst you use circlip pliers to open the circlip right up whilst you put it back on.

also if you repacked your cv's that will make it a bit harder to get into the groove.

I have tightly rapped a rag around the axle to pull it out a couple of times and its given me enough to put the circlip on. worked for me
