Outer Limits 4x4 Board

alright i drowned my sierra and i have changed all my oils but i have a problem. it wont idle. i think the carby bowl has a bit of water in it. the thinhg is if i pull it apart i recon ill forget how to put it back together because there are so may bits and peices on it. so i thought id ask what is the best way to clean it out, ill pull it apart if i can get hold of a diagram of how it goes together

any help would be good

if u dont want to pull the carby apart,there are two 14mm bolts at the front of the carby pull them out and spray some carby cleaner in there to clean it out,those two 14 mmbolts go into the float bowl

Pour a litre of metho into your fuel tank and go for a drive. Metho absorbs water and is combustible. Water gets soaked up and burnt. No more problem.
A litre of metho every six months or so has never hurt any of my cars and I've never had a drama with water in my fuel.

There is a product called fuel doctor which does much the same thing as metho except metho is only a temporary absorbent. Fuel doctor also cleans the whole fuel system of water and the bugs that breed in the water.

You can get it from supercrap auto for about $16.

Both Josh and Want 33's ideas are spot on.

No need to spend $$$ on fuel products - metho will work a treat, but make sure you have drained the bowl and changed the fuel filter.

Sierra fuel caps are notoriously leaky. If the water was deep enough, you'll get water in the tank from the cap.

This sounds crazy too, but check the condition of the hoses around the fuel hard lines (@ the fuel filter and the hard line to fuel pump) The fuel pump sucks fuel up from the tank, cracked hoses can lead to water getting pulled in when they're under water - the pressure sill push water in.

You might only have copped water in though the intake, but if it's in the tank, you will fight the problem for a long time unless you get it out or break it down with metho, even if you get the carb clean.

yeah i could hear the water being sucked in through the filler cap. ive had the tank out cleaned it out and replaced the fuel filter.

I did the same in my zuk a few years back but was lucky enough that the stretch of water was only 10m.... so before the water rushed under the bonnet i was out - however my legs were soaked!

i ended up puling apart the carby and giving it a real good clean. now runs fine. thanks for all the tips

No... it's quite sensible, if you're going to lay your rig down (as per avatar) then dry flat ground is much better than dirty deep mudhole....

However i see both points of view... sometimes more fun is more stupid... hell, why compete when it almost guarantees bigger maintenance/repair costs... coz it's FUN!

Steve im not sure If I remember right but you drive that bog hole at the bottom of justice track only a month ago when there was firm dry ground next to it?

A) I knew I was going to get through
B) I did it slowly
C) it was hardly dry ground around it
D) I didn't post photos of it on a public forum.

My car falls over regularly, and falling over when trying a technical line is not in any way the same as trying to drive across a dam that's 4 feet deep or hitting a bog hole in 2nd high. That's not cool INHO.

Not fast but he was aiming for China on a funny angle

to put it into context, it was a very off camber entry to a bog hole with all sorts of nasty stumps, tree roots etc on the way in.

Basically, my "far too narrow" 1.0 sort of fell over on the way in. the chassis hit the tree roots and the RHF wheel went to full droop with the whole car leaning way over into the soup.

It was VERY hard to recover backwards. (Thanks CJ )

Greg ended up driving the same section fine in is WT with 8" rims - it was mostly a track width thing.

Hitting it faster was a joke - adding speed rarely results in more success.

I think Cj might even have a photo. It looked pretty funny. Lead to a wheelbearing rebuild about 2 months later - whole hub was full of mud.
