help needed transfer might be blown

Post by kurzo »

hey guys ive got n 89 SWB GQ TD42, just put a new diff in fully rebuilt and went out this weekend and found a very bad banging noise every so often when in a bogg hole or up hills, basically when i had foot flat and a bit of strain on the driveline.
after the bang(metal on metal felt throught out the car) found it was from gearbox/transfer case which would end up not driveing the front diff, after the bogg or hill another bang and the front diff had power to it.

just need to know if this has happened to anyone or if someone might know what it is. as i dont have the money to give it to someone to find out its something else.

cheers kurzo

Kurzo this happened to me very epxensive sounding metal on metal bang every few metres under load, and the post is here. http://www.outerlimits4x4.com/phpBB2/vi ... p?t=121545

It was the transfer case for me, I was like you didnt want to keep spending money on people guessing. Change over transfer fixed it though and not too expensive.
