Diesel Issues

Hi All,

I have some issues with my 03 105 cruiser (1HZ) and i'd like some advice before I take it to a mechanic. The 2 symptoms are:

1. It is hard to start when warm. It needs a few turns to crank it up. Or if I give it a short turn of the key it'll start no worries on the next try.
Starts perfectly when cold.

2.If it idles for a while (stop at the lights for a few minutes) it'll be extremely slugish on takeof and blow huge clouds of black smoke for about 500m. If I only stop for a few seconds, nothing.

It has standard exhaust and I use the split rims (7.50R16) most of the time. It returns 11/12L to 100km (highway). it has 210000ks on the clock.

Does anyone know if the two symptoms are related and what might cause it?

Cheers

I am no mechanic, but the only thing I can think of is injectors or injector pump. The black smoke is excess fuel, maybe a leaking injector.

When were they last done?

i don't know those motors but i would suspect a crack in the pump seals. while its not leaking they sometimes get air into them once they get hot and the metal expands opening up the crack hence it plays up when its warm.

Black smoke may be an egr fault, hard starting could also be a immobiliser problem, get it back to toyota to get looked at.

couple of things, the 03 has a altitude doover on the pump...r all the hoses intact? sounds like pump to me, smoke is lack of timing, i would be asking a few diesel shops for their advice...and maybe even the landcruiser site at www.lcool.org...b4 u get a loan to pay for oops this didnt work lets try that.......

Thanks for the answers guys.

I bought the car second hand and I'm not sure if/when the injectors were done so I'll start by having them checked/replaced.
I'll have the pump looked at next. At least I have a bit of an idea of what the problem might be. Could avoid being made to pay big $ when I don't need to.
