MQ/MK Input shaft lengths

G'day all,
I'll preface this question by saying yes I have searched and no I didn't find what I was after. So I better not see any newbies telling me to search!
I have an MK that originally had an L28 fitted, I bought an MQ with a Small block Chev and Cabstar 5 speed fitted. Swapped them over and had fun for a while.
Then broke the 5 speed, picked up a 4 speed to temporarily replace it (Cost a slab).
Now here is the problem, Cabstar 5 speed input shaft looks the same as the 4 speed shaft except that the overall length is very different. About 155mm on the 5 speed and 195mm on the 4 speed.
Is there a different 4 speed or input shaft I can use that is shorter or am I better off getting another Cabstar 5 speed and fitting that up?
Cheers,
Dave

If you didnt break the inputshaft to the 5sp just take it out and put it in the 4sp box easy.. dont forget you need 4sp tail shafts aswell!!
There was a heap of differnt combinations of input shafts, petrol, diesel, alloy bellhousing, cast bellhousing,
Other thing is im not sure if the cluster shaft gear on the input shaft is the same No. of teeth in the cabstar g/box.
Just pull it out and check it closely

the gearboxes from the SD33 engines had a longer shaft as the engine was shorter than the petrols... id say your new box came from a diesel. if you can get your hands on a box that came from a petrol then you can use that shaft... of just that box even

Unfortunately I broke teeth off the input gear and the cluster, so this option is out

Probably not with the V8. I was just trying to get it up and running on the cheap so I can go have some more fun
What are 5 speeds going for these days?
