The speedo in my POS Hilux is waving around (5-8kph variation). Is it worth squirting some lube down the end of the cable?

Or should i just order a new one and save myself having to pull it apart twice?

Which year lux do you have Sierrajim??

my 95 model was noisy behind the dash area, and would whip causing the needle to move around a fair bit.

One thing with these cables is that as they wear, they also can unwind, and put pressure into the rear of the speedo cluster, and cause damage.

when you take the cluster out, I would suggest carefully grinding off the top 4-5mm of the cable that goes into the end of the cluster. And lube it up with light oil, or spray grease, whatever you have around.

I have restored several cables by doing this.

You may not be able to move the inner cable much, but patience and persistance will get some oil to soak down into the cable area.

Well happy to report.

RP7 squirted down the cable along with some light molly grease on the speedo end and the needle wobble has all but gone. Only a very slight waver now that seems to be getting better as the lube has time to bed in.
