I assume that all the MQ's have C200 fronts and H233B or H260 rear ends.

As far as i know there are no aftermarket diff gears available, so your only option is to find a truck with them in or get them straight from nissan (i talked to nissan here in NZ and the ring gear and pinion was approx $1500 per diff ex Japan) I brought a whole truck with 4.875 diff's for a couple of hundred dollars and am currently rebuilding them.

I believe they will be few and far between.

i bought a set of complete axles/diffs hub to hub and drum to drum off a guy, i just sold them to someone for $450. And they were from a diesel i think, but fitted up fine, all i had to do was get the tailshaft shortened by 45mm.

yes all MQs have the same difs, and yes, the only way to get new gears is to either go to nissan or get another truck, getting another truck is the cheapest option, go for a wander thru the wreckers.

but the MQ diesels have 4.88 gears. with out changing housing is it possible to do a clean swap?

also will this gearing benefit me when i run 35's?

thanks

not true, its a luck of the draw as to what gearing it is, mine is not 4.88 and i run a diesel. the housings are identical regardless, if you fund a buss with 4.88 then its a clean swap. look at the plate on the top of the drivers side wheel arch under the bonnet and it will tell you the gearing

lowering the gearing will always benifit you, particularly if your increasing tire size

MQ and MK l28 engine had 4.6 ratio's
MQ sd33 engine had 4.6 ratio's
Mk sd33t engine had 4.3 ratio's
MQ P40 engine had 4.1 ratio's

these were all interchangable as they share the same housings.

MK sd33 ute with 5sp manual had the 4.8 ratio diffs.

The front was a c200 but the rear was a larger housing and needs to be swaped totally as the centre is larger.

4.8 ratio diffs are few and far between.

4.8 on a 35in tyres sd33t will give it factory gearing....

There was a set on here for sale a few weeks back but they don't come up often as there weren't many MK utes prior to introduction of GQ model.

macca81, they arent all the same size, so it cant be a straight swap, the 4.88 diffs i had were massive, the rear one was alot bigger than the 4.6 i originally had. No way it could of been put into the 4.6 housing, and also, (i dont know what the numbers were) the axles were a different number/spline ratio, they were the rarer type. And yes as everyone says, it will benifit you on 35's, although, i didnt really notice the difference on my 33's, but i didnt have a rev guage to see closer.

EDITED EXTRA: i just read what jtraf said, didnt beforehand, so yeh he is correct!
