Outer Limits 4x4 Board

Hey guys im going to be putting a dual battery system in my 100 series and the 2 batterys will be linked so that i can winch through both. They will be joined with 95mm2 cable and a 600Amp isolation switch and a Paranaha dual battery system. Now all i need to know is what batterys to put in my car.

- Winching
- Jumpstarting of Aux Batt.
- Fridge
- Spotties
- Air compersor
- deccent sized inverter (one day)
- 800 watt RMS Amp
- and other random camping gear

Main reason for asking is last night had to go save a guy who was stuck and when i was winching i was running out of power and dont want that to be happening again so what is the beat all round value for money battery for the above things?

For my setup I use a RedTop as vehicle starting battery and a Yellow D34 for accessories, including winch. If you can fit the D31 then consider that. For our touring/camping I have found that the D34 runs the campsite/fridge etc easily for the day, and as the charging rate is so high, recharges very quickly when travelling the next day. For winching the two batteries are in parallel. The Optimas are designed to hold the voltage for longer than most flat plate batteries, and with the engine at fast idle, I've not run out of winch. A number of clients use the D34M for the second battery, using the bolt on connectors for lower load accessories, and winch off main connectors.

A few guys i know are using the exide orbitals and they havnt had any problems they are using 2-3 batterys however this is for competition use.

the local exide wholesaler in melboure was doing them for under $300.

For winching you actually want a normal lead acid style battery as they are better for short term high power draw like winching. Deep cycles are better for the slow drain things like the fridge. So you want a large normal lead acid style battery (at least 600cca) and a deep cycle for the fridge etc, I wouldn't bother hooking them together for winching. Only if you need to winch for a bloody long time with the engine off will it pay off to hook them both up.

I did my first really long winch recently using my single 720cca supercharge batt. I have had it for 2 and a half years and has not let me down. I used to have 2 of them in parrallel but i have found that one is fine (for normal use). Good value if you dont need a sealed batt.
