Suzuki Jumny Overheating at low speed

Customers Suzuki Jimny overheating at Low speed.
Bull bar/winch/driving lights. These may affect higher speeds but I cant see affecting low speed.
OK highway air on etc, gauge goes to top when crawling along.

Any ideas welcomed, clutch fan is my guess?

If it's overheating at low speeds - you are correct - it's not likely to be due to wind obstructions on the front - but more likely an inadequate cooling system. Fan is the obvious choice - check it is actually running when the car is hot.

Might be worth adding an additional fan - a good quality davies craig unit with a driver controlled override for on/off would be a good investment in any little suzuki. That way you can really get the air pumping through the radiator, even when the engine is on super low idle up hills.

I don't know about the jimny radiator - but on my sierra radiator i've got a 14" fan with complete shouding (shrowding?) over the radiator and it works pretty well.

In addition - make sure that the radiator isn't filled with mud, and that the thermostat is doing its job (these are both cheap things to do so they are worth doing reguardless)...

Hope that gets you a bit closer to fixing the issue.

Cheers

But I can get a point for actually stating Tonka, can't I.

From the answer in your previous question about exactly the same thing I would say the investment in an electric fan maybe the go. I am running one in mine and the improvement over the clutch was noticable. Also by having a switch I can control when i want it on, a very handy thing in hot weather and slow speed wheeling

I would have to say that there is some kind problem with the cooling system as well .. With my a worked 1.6 being cooled by a 1.3 litre radiator that was almost entirely blocked with mud on a 30+ degree day pulling 35's .. I was getting pretty warm warm enought that at a few stages I had to stop and let it cool off for 10 mins while driving slow .. I could actually maintain hiway speeds OK .. (from Mt Dissapointment to whittlesea servo where I could get a pressure washer) It only made it to about 3/4 of the way up the guage, I checked .. the guage is accurate with a infra red heat gun thingy .. additional fan may help in the short term .. but i would sugesst it may get worse

I would check the coolent flow\rad condition etc ..

may be your radiator is internally restricted with scale ?
I run a davis craig 14" with shroud but i have a slight blockage that causes mine to get very hot at crawling speeds, my other radiator i bought as a reco from qld was even worse ( more blocked ) reconditioned to the fellas i bought it from meant flushing the system at a radiator speacilist , but the only sure way to clean them of scale is remove top and bottom tanks and rod the cooler cores and than reassmble.

Putting an electric fan on isn't fixing the problem you are just hiding the problem. Theree must be another problem with the cooling system, check the difference in temp from the top and bottom of the radiator to check if the flow is good.If the top is hot and the bottom a lot cooler then there is a flow problem. I would say it would be either the thermostat or the radiator been blocked.

Sam's got a good point, you'd still be doing damage after fitting a new fan. My jimny often runs in 1st low (spydertrax) for hours without any sign of getting hot, it's been doing that for 120,000kms ok! You'd probably find its blocked or some other related issue. Having minimal cooling entry at the front dont help, and blocking them with lights wont help, also I think bullbars on Jimny dont do much for airflow in, so it all adds up....
