Outer Limits 4x4 Board

ive got a sierra with a 1.6 injected motor and want to get some more power out of it. how much roughly will a new peformance cam cost? and how much would extractor cost? and maybe a new exhaust system too

extractors and 2" pipe on mine all fitted and stainless was about $300 if i recall correctly... although its still got the 1.3l cat choking it, it made a huge difference to mid and high end revs... i felt i got better fuel economy too.

cam is 100-150 regrind not installed.

extractors are 180 and exaust is 200ish.

what is regrind? if its modding the cam no i wan to put in a new cam?

180 for extractor and 200 for exhaust is cheap. i cant offord that on aprentise wages. mmm maybe ask for it for xmass???

a regrind is too take yours out, get it reground and then put it back in.

being a zook engine u have to either take head off or engine out as it goes in from the back of the head.

a new sports cam is about 500 or so and that is a new billet made cam, prob from the US or another dealer.

so when i buy extractors i get ones for the 1.6 motor? just need ot know incase the guys down at the shop asks

I think fuel injected 1600 have different extractors than carby?? You can get 4 into 1 for top end power or 4 into 2 into 1 for low end I think thats how it goes they will tell you when you buy them.

get ones to suit your motor. just tell him what motor you have and then grab them

if u have a 1.6 carb the extractors are same as the 1.3 but if u have the mpfi version they are different.

i guess low end is what we need for 4wding? or high end to get up thow big hills? what would you chosse?

mine are 4-2-1 but they really only kick in from 3000rpm to 5000rpm... thats about spot on for offroad - any lower than 3000rpm and you're about to change down a gear in most cases.

in reality how much power is one of these $500 cams claim to make over standard, if any one on here has tried one

Not that I'm an expert at any of this(just clearing this up before I get stung )
unless your in very slipery mud you dont have to rev it to high, I have standard transfer - std diffs (3:9) and only run 30" tyres, and I can still walk up some steep stuff (1500 to 2000rpm), sometimes it likes to crawl rather then screem up the hills,
anyway the original tourque rang for sierra's 1.3 or 1.6 is between 2500 and 5000 anyway isnt it? , (without any mods that is. )
getting your original cam ground to be of a mid range cam will just increase it a bit more, I have seen some other cams for around $300,
ask suzisport or someone like that on there prices, they are only a phone call away

or go and see if you can get a 2nd stage chip made up for it or if they can remap your original one,
changing the cam will meen you will have to get it tuned(remaped) to suit the different cam anyways,

grind may be different but i used to run a regrind cam in my old 1.3, it went quite good over a std zook with it. bout 3000> torque band.

dunno if they are 500 but they are not cheap over a regrind.

Most of my offroad was ruts and hills with some gravel/mud/rock... i used low range a lot - kept the speed down and RPM up. My zuk always got better fuel economy if i was revving it vs. if i was keeping revs low. =P
