Clutch fan question

I have an 2.8td mk triton, just wondering if the fan should spin freely by hand when motor is off, or should there be a little resisitance?

Any tips appreciated.

I could be wrong but, its not too bad if it spins freely when it is cold.

If the engine is at operating temp and you shut it down, then try to spin the fan it should have more friction.

I was getting sudden changes in temp when the engine was warm, with no reason for it. After I change the clutch fan, things get better. Of course you should still look at other things such as making sure the radiator has good flow.
