I have had my hilux for about 3 months and it has just started to blow a bit of smoke when off boost, mainly in 1st and 2nd gear. I have attached a pic of what i believe is the boost compensator but as this is my first 4x4, i'm not quite sure. If it is a boost compensator, does my truck need a tune up due to the excess smoke? Its not a huge amount of smoke but enough to p**s off fellow motorists. Any help or comments would be appreciated.

Hey mate just wondering if you've cleaned or replaced air/fuel filters and if you've ran any injector treatment through it this can help. A deisel with a blocked air cleaner will blow alot of smoke also is econamy down.

I think that what you have is the OE HAC, or high altitude compensator. Check and see if you have any hoses connecting it to the inlet manifold, i.e. a boost sense line.
