GQ Fuel tank lift

I have lifted the body 50mm. The rear quarters have been cut off. The next is to lift the fuel tank. Its a standard tank. I want to take it up the 50mm into the lift. What is involved in the lift as the mounts (i think) are pressed as part of the tank? Anyone lifted their standard tank?

as stupid as it sounds, I have never seen a standard GQ tank out of a car. but if it is made the way you describe you _should_ be able to:
Cut enough of the mounts off to allow them to slide up into the chassis, but leaving enough meat on to be able to weld it shut again.
Then weld on a second skin where the new mounts will be, to spread the load out a bit.
Then weld on your new mounts.
Then realise that you've fawked a perfectly good tank, and get one of those special ones from bayswater

Ive got a custom tank ready to be slotted that suits 2" bodylift ...................................but its only bout 110l its bout 80-90 higher than a stanard tank from memory..................and where it tapers off towards the back wen it reaches the end its flush with the rear crossmember

Over the yrs I have got qoutes I think from nearly ever tank manufacter. And they will all do slight mods to there basic design at request. At the last 4x4 show I got a quote for a LRA 145lt tank lifted 50mm and with 3mm plate on the bottom instead of 2mm (this is the same thickness some of the OBC / winch cars have so you really can drop it onto the rocks).
But the bloke also said I could just get the tank made higher and get an extra 20lt, and that they where currentlly makeing a lower tank of only 110lt that is flush with the chassi.

Before we replaced our rear tank we raised ours by mounting it onto the top of the rear crossmember at the back of the tank, front bolts remained bolted in the original location.
This aounds like the best solution so far. O bvioulsy the height from the tank mounts to the top of the tank are the first things to check here. Will chck this tonight.

you will be doing some awesome gymnastics to get in there and drill holes on top of the x-member.. much easier with a trayback like drafty's..
you mighn't even be able to get the tank in there?
Drafty, did you lift the tank in from underneath or drop it down from the top?

Don't know, I have pretty much decided to go straight gas. Have worked out I can fit about 200L of gas in without any dramas.
