diff gear wear Q,s

G,day all
I was wondering if it is possible to accertain if a diff gear set ( CW+P )
is suitable for hard locked use by looking at it. Sure if it has obvious damage we can all recognise this , but more in relation to the number of
km,s and the amount of normal wear thtough the case hardening. I have given up on fancy aftermarket gear sets because they are not as strong given the lower ratio , and also have high set up costs. If I now break a
CW+P I can purchase a second hand open centre and just install the locker. But how do you pick one that is on its last legs.
Cheers
