Hi all,

Where's a good place to get an ARB rear locker fitted to an early model disco ? Any places to stay away from ? Am in Melbourne.

Cheers,

Brett

how early on the disco ? V8 or TDI ? Manual or Auto?

Early discos have 10 spline axels which will = broken axels. If you have that strenght axels and an air locker you can pretty much break them driving round in circles on gravel in low range.

Aquarangie (trav) on this site has had a set of 10 spines and ARB locker with a V8 auto and has had good success with them I believe it was luck and a really strong set of 10 spines (what an oxymoron)

IMO ARB shouldn't sell a locker kit for a 10 spine Discos and Rovers they are just too weak for that setup.

If you wanted a locker setup I would look at putting later model 24 splines in (new diff req'd) into the back (at the very least) of your disco
and fit a locker, they will at least last a little while longer

If you are in melbourne it would be better to spend the extra few $$$ and get a macnamara locker

Its a 93 TDI with 10 splines :( But i was thinking of having the 24 spline locker put in and then geting 2nd hand axels. I assume this is possible.

Go the maxi-drives, or the McNamaras!!

While the ARB unit is well made, the axle depatment lets down such a good product. I guess that ARB design there lockers to fit up to the original axles and the like for ease of fitting.

Like all have said here, spend some extra dosh and go somethibng stronger. I was VERY lucky that my 10 splines lasted almostb 2 years without breakage, but adding larger tyres broke the axles without even trying!!!!

I will soon be fixing this litle problem with a maxi-drive unit , which now resides in Dad's Rangie as he only drives off-road one or twice a year and I need the extra strength. The MD locker was miine originally anyway, but put it on his when I traded my then 84 Rangie up to a Disco. BIG MISTAKE!!!!!!!!

Anyweay, good luck on whichever way you go.
