 g,day. I decided to replace the main bearings in my 1hd-ft 80 series. All was going well until I tryed to remove the lower bearing cap. The bolts have been removed but the thing refuses to budge. I have employed sum large bits of timber a big hammer but still no luck. Does anybody no if the lower cap will come off with the engine still in the car. Is it only the sealant holding it on. Has any body done this job before . Any info appreciated cos it looks like the bus for me next week. cheers fellas.

The main bearing cap is part of a bottom cradle. Engine has to come out to remove it im afraid. Yes it will also have sealant around it.

Nope, all the 1H* family are identical in that regard. You cannot remove the ladder type bearing cap as the timing case and rear main seal will hold it on.

Mate do you mean the big end bearings? You can do big ends with the motor in the car but mains needs the motor out. If you are struggling with this then you probably should pay a professional to do the job. Sorry not meaning to be harsh just trying to help. If the bottom end lets go you will be up for $thousands.

Cheers
