Outer Limits 4x4 Board

Hi all

I've just put a R151 in my 93 Hilux diesel with the adaptor from Marks to bolt up my original transfer from behind the G52. Everything bolted up sweet with the addition of a little clearancing for 1 bolt hole. But the shifter for the forward shift transfer doesnt come close to reaching the shift forks when seated in the cup, on the R series intermediate housing. Plus I am getting conflicting information from Marks and Advance Adaptors, who make the adaptor plate. One says I need the transfer I already have for it to work, while the other says I need a top shift case.

Do I just need the transfer shifter from the R151? Are they longer?

Do the shift forks from a chain drive box sit in the same location as gear drive?

Has anyone here used this adaptor and can give me some info?

Any help will be appreciated.

What you need to do is cut the leg of the shifter you have now and lengthen it to fit.

The adaptor plate has moved the original point further back by about 16mm you don't need to do anything else other than that.

I've used the Marks kit with an R150, but the original chain drive case I had was a top shift, so I used a top shift gear drive t-case. The intermediate housing on my R150 only has a cup for the gearbox selector, I assumed the R151 was the same, but obviously not.

One other tip I'll add, check the gearbox output oil seal Marks provided fits over the coupler properly. When I did mine a few years ago the oil seal id wasn't correct for the coupler. They probably have this sorted now, but it might be worth checking before putting it all back in the car.

Bulldogy - I was contemplating cutting and lengthening the shifter below the ball, but wasn't sure whether the forward-shift chain drive shifter was longer and would slot straight in. I assume I would need to find one from a chain drive, manual shifting, U-shaped shifter pattern case? Do they exist?

Scott - the seal over the coupler fit quite well, lip seated fairly tight so they obviously addressed that problem. Also the tailhousing or intermediate housing on mine has both shifter locations, and both sit exactly where mine used to in the floor with the G52. I was told these would line up and I could use my original shifters.

It's all in and driving, just don't have a transfer shifter. I might just carry around a screwdriver

Also this looks like a R150 box to gear-drive transfer (factory US - pic borrowed from Pirate4x4) and see how much lower the transfer shifter sits compared to the gearbox one? Mine are the same height... I think I'm on to it.



But I could be wrong - does a W56 drain to the side like this?

EDIT: just went outside and looked at my G52 on the ground... shifter heights are the same as in the above pic haha.

You can get a u shaped shifter from the later model base hilux with IFS that have a chain drive case they had free wheeling hubs on them but i think the length will still be to short. Just use either a old head bolt or a grade 8.8 bolt to lengthen it use the shank part tho not the thread.

The pic of the shifter is what we do without the dog leg up top unless you need it to fit specific somewhere.
