Hi everyone, brought my 1st sierra last week. 90mdl hardftop. I'm yet to register it under my name. I'm in victoria.
My questions are :
do i need to have carpet in it for a rwc? (i flooded it and it stinks abit. i will end up doing it again no doubt

)
Are mud terrain tires roadworthy? and will 30 or 31's pass a roadworthy inspection? I need 4 new tyres all round so i wanted to upgrade now.
any help/experience welcomed

the carpet is no prob
30 31 tyers you must have a lift in it so long as its not the body should be fine and mud terrain tires if thay have ruber on them ?? should be fine
but dont fix any thing till after you go for a RWC

Depending on who is doing the road worthy you may need a mod plate of some sort for tyres that big. It's a good idea to have a spare set (cheap secondhandy's will do) of stock sized tyres for roadies and such.

thanks for the replies
thats good to know i dont need the carpet in there
i'm tossing up about getting some 2nd hand bf muddies 9.5 x 30 on sunraysia wheels, or spending $150ea on 205/70/15 for my factory wheels, which is dont want to do..
ideally i'd like to get the 30s and pass a rwc with them..

GRPABT1 - he's in vic - no such thing as a "mod plate"
No need for carpet.
30's SHOULD be ok, but if the RWC guy is picky, he won't pass it. It's always best to borrow a set of stockies for a RWC- just removes it coming up as an issue.
I have seen suzuki's get a RWC on 31's (no cert) but technicaly, 15mm over stock is the limit without an engineers. (or 26.5" in your case

) However, most RWC guys are more interested in the tryes having legal tread than whether they match the placard.
As an aside, do you just need a RWC for a transfer or is the car currently unreg? If it's a transfer only, you should be OK. If it's unreg, Vicroads will need to see it and sometimes the RWC guys get a bit cagey as vicroads can refuse to put plates on a car that looks modded (without a cert)

also keep in mindthat by fitting larger tyres you may be required to put some kind of flare onto your already flared guards.. easily available at clark rubber for about $60.
passed my RWC(changeover) with a body lift and 31's but had to put the flares on to keep the bloke signing happy.
off memory things they REALLY checked over were Brakes, lights, indicators, reverse lights, windscreen demister, wipers+squirters and any leaking fluids.

Good point

It's registered, so just a transfer. vicroads wont need to inspect it.
foolsp33d - fitting flares is no problem. hopefully 30x9.5 wont stick out to far on a W/T??
thanks very much for your help guys.

this is a great site with very helpful members
