Triple range Tfer case?

Having been for a run in a GU with Rockhoppers, they are stunning to crawl with and would be a great addition to MOST 4bs... but there are losses.

I would find it hard to lose normal low range which I find really useful for cruising around the mountains, or waitin for slower cars to catch up to you etc. So started thinking of options.

Another option is twin transfer cases, but they have their issues as well, with shorter drive shafts, and other holes in the floor, and have never been in one, but would seem more comp orientated than anything else.

Now the thread by Professor on the twin caliper mounts, and people saying think outside the square I are doing that...

Would it be possible to build a transfer case with High/Low/Rockhopper?

I realise space would be an issue, but how much more space, or compared to twin cases? Casting wouldnt be cheap, but see how popular Rockhoppers are with comp people, I reckon a triple would be popular with 100's of peasant wheelers..

I'll put my flame suit on now.

Thanks for the input...
Atlas, are they sort of generic, one fits all?

I like the merit of the different range of the duals the atlat puts all of the range into one transfer I think without the lenght

There are a few adaptors c4 700 400 mosst yank stuff. they are clockable and avalable for left or right output

not a bad setup

Stak also do a three speed - including an overdrive combo.

http://www.stak4x4.com/products_tcase.htm

I think by the time you have either a 4 speed atlas or 3 speed stak in your car though, duals will seem like a cake walk.

There aren't any adapters to a nissan case ( I assume you're thinking Nissan?) or your driveshaft flanges, you'll need new crossmembers, shifter locations etc.

I think that the available 3.5 or so transfer case gears for nissan cases would be pretty ideal?

Not having a go, but the engineering costs of a three speed case(that can't be sold in the US market) would be prohibitive I think.

Steve.

Thanks Rob.
The issue with this is cost, I cant see it being any cheaper than $1800-2000 with just the "KIT" being $1000.. then shafts, reco t/fer case etc.

Oh well, it ws just a thought :)

Pretty sure bru21 did this and even doing the work himself it cost a pretty penny.

An atlas or stak transfer will make $2000 seam cheap, + they dont have a handbrake on them, duals are a good way to go for what youve described.........

i had duals in the gq. next time I would go atlas - it will be cheaper/lighter/stronger? etc. atlas is very easy with a motor and box swap.

the dual transfer was sweet but cost about 4k all up.

cheers bru

with the marks gears i had 3rd low was roughly about the same as 1st low with standard gears

had 35s and 4.1 diffs

you still have 5 gears to choose from ... use them all
i cruised around in low in 5th when on the flat betweet tracks quite often
if i needed more back to high range

i think theres plenty of option there to use already .... my opinion

i have the 43% marks gears and find the only time their to low is on the beach but then i just use high range instead. They really transform a Patrol in the bush though ,makes it so much easier on the vehicle as well

i have tried both.
in high range i was using more fuel :x but in low range it comfortably sits on 40k in 5th and uses less fuel.
