Pack it yourself.
It will almost halve the cost if you drop it to a transport company depot and it gets picked up at the other end. The short trips will cost as much as the line haul.
A gearbox, maybe get a small skid or crate so it can be loaded and unloaded with a forklift. This speeds things up for them.
Make sure it is clean and not leaking anything.
WA Freightlines
Hi Trans
Other people might be able to suggest other companies, but some of the large ones (Toll, Startrack) may or will not deal with a one off job, or price it so you don't use them.
I can highly, highly recommend www.freightmanagement.com.au - speak to Daniel, he's a fellow 4x4er and I couldn't believe how cheap he was to use to ship from NSW to Vic. Definitely worth chatting to.
Apparently people think I'm too patronising (that means I treat them like they’re stupid).
If you're lazy, try pack n send. I didn't have any luck with a freight company willing to do a private job (startrack express, TNT etc all wanted an ABN or account - maybe i sounded like too much of a n00b) when i was sending a winch from melbourne to broken hill. With pack n send i just dropped the winch off at the shop, they packed it up (wired it to a skid) and organized freight. Cost wasn't alot more than what freight calculators were telling me. It's more of a domestic service (ebay type stuff), but it works - might just have to clean it up a bit for them. http://www.packsend.com.au/

i was thinking that too..
surely a swift box wouldnt be too expensive
True, he's after a low k one but.
I mean I'd personally rather sell it local but might as well get a freight price and if he's happy to pay it, I'm happy for him to take it off my hands.
