Outer Limits 4x4 Board

In the last 6 month I've purchased a 87 dual cab with a 2.4 diesel and I'm in then process of doing it up. It all ready has a 2.5" spring lift and I've got hold of some extended shackles and some 35" simex for bush driving. I've spoken to a few mates who recommend some transfer gears to help push the 35's around. I was just wondering what ratio to get and are they easy to change out myself or should I get the so called professionals to do it. I come from a mechanical back ground so I'm not afraid of getting the hands dirty.

Any advice is very welcome

4.7:1 are most common and i'd say this is what mine are and i love it wouldn't mind the option to go lower but it works ok now so why F*$k with it. i'm doin a set now into lux_89's case and i'm a 3rd yr apprentice mechanic and peice of piss to do and with info like this around i can't see why you wouldn't do it yourself.

Thanks SIC LUX that's the sort of help/info I need, doesn't look to hard how much do you grind off inside to fit new gear or can you sort of put it back together and have a look at the clearance.

For doin lower bit of the case grind it out a bit put the gear in if it sits down far enough to fit snap ring on the bearing and it spins without touching anything it'll be ok, if it still hit's you'll be able to see when you spin it and where it hits so just in and out a few time's just do a bit then try and do a bit more so you don't take a heap out simple enough and the side bit's are the same it states about 3mm of each one

I`m a sparky and I put mine in myself. I used a bit of cardboard and put that between the housing and the gears and then spun the gear. If it went around then it had enough clearance I did this in about 2000 or maybe 01 and I knew alot less about mechanical stuff then, not that I know much now lol.
With my old rockhoppers I had to take a bit off one of the shifter forks as well.

Go Duals

Try Foothill off road, I find them great to deal with and have been using them for a while and they ship via usps
I have duals and cross over steering from them

Either way you go, duals or lower t-case gear you wont go wrong.
