just wondering, if i wanted to change the tap (manual lockoff valve on tank), do i need to drain the tank, or is there a safety valve the closes when that tap is removed.
if i do need to drain the tank what is the safest and quickest way to do it (one tank half fuel, the other 3 quarters)

this is an automotive gas tank BTW.

You will need to drain the tank.
The safest way is to work out how to vent it then park it somewhere safe while you vent it.

It wont blow up unless it comes into contact with an ignition source.

we drain hot air ballon tanks at work by popping them out the back of the factory and releasing the valve a bit to let the gas out slowly.

Possibly it can be drained by opening one of the valve under the bonnet, just a thought.

I wish I had known, I been in Caloundra all week. I would have used my transfer lead, for at least 30 litres this morning.

Venting in an open place is how it's done. Just beware that gas release through a small hole will freeze lock the hole, so open it all the way. The filler side should have a non-return valve. So do it on the outlet side.

Not Flashpoint, but whats the name of the point when you get the right balance of gas fumes, oxygen, in a container and an open flame?
