Outer Limits 4x4 Board

Ok just broke a very old ARBnow which is stronger.

My vehicle is a zuk buggy running a v6 commodore motor with an auto box.Running twin lux transfer cases standard gearing with lux diffs with 5.29s.My tyres are 40 inch comp spec Maxis Trepadors

Now I need a locker for the rear diff.

This vehicle gets towed everywhere but only the front wheels are of the ground i drop out the rear drive shaft and tow my car like a mobby tow trailer.So going for a spool im thinking is out of the question as the 40s are just to grippy for the road locked up.

So do I by a new ARB or go for a Detroit or TJM any ideas would be welcome.

If it was an old ARB then it would have been an RD01. I've killed 2 of them. The new ones are an RD23 which are alot better then the early 01's.

Detroits can die when you bust axles because of the sudden shock of the unloading on one side. Seen this happen a couple of times.

Plus you still get extra tyre wear with detriots, for basicly the same $$$$ I'd go the ARB.

There is a newer version out for 8" hilux diffs and 80 ser. cruiser fronts , RD132 which is a 2 piece housing apparently.
ARB are not making RD23's anymore, this came from ARB.

You can get a Detoit delivered to your door from the US for $700 AUD.

Lockrites etc etc are much cheaper.

and you can get the ARB lock for about $900.

i believe his car is still regoed but the bogie isnt

I dont know if I would be towing that way with the stickys on.
I reckon they would get a bit of wear even though that are just free wheeling.
I just think if I had that much money tied up in rubber I would be trying pretty hard to minimise wear when not 4wding.

Not sure which locker is stronger. From what I have heard they are pretty equal so just go with whoever gives you the best deal

Paul if I start to trailer it on a normal car trailer then id just spool the rear.Just dont have the room for a full car trailer.No what you mean about the tyres thinking of trailering it on a set of crappy 31s just have to find somewhere to carry the 2 40s easy on the way down their clean but harder on the way home when theres mud and crap dripping of them

Its ring around shops and ask for a supply only of an ARB.

You'll still need to buy a pair of carrier bearings for the install. But you'd need to do the same with a detriot.

If u want the best locker u would have to put a D60 under it and buy a OX locker

Wouldnt the better way to go be to leave the welded diff the stickys and the drive shaft on the zuggy at all times and put the $900 towards a full trailer, If your worried about space just leave the zuk on top of the trailer when it is parked at home.

ARB few months ago - RD132 $1097.

ARB just my 2c

Decided on going full spool and hire a car trailer no more worries about cops pulling me over or insurance claims over how im towing also saves the tyres.
