Sticky Throttle?

Hey all
My zuk is increasingly getting sticky throttle... (ie: doing 2500rpm, clutch and it revvs up to 3500rpm, or foot off the accelerator and i hold speed!!) A quick jab on the pedal or pulling and releasing the choke fixes the issue temporarily (till next time i accelerate). Im sure its something to do with years of dirt and dust, but not where to start!!
Current setup is a weber 32/36 with the 8v vit donk.
Spraying WD40 everywhere appeared to be a good solution, but then if i was to do that, surely it'd just attract more crap to the area?
Where do i start and what do i do?

Try Carby cleaner instead of WD40.
Get it all clean and then spray JUST the linkages with Lanotec or similar. Not WD40.

Maybe there's crap inside the accelerator cable. I know on mountain bikes we service at work that a cable full of dust and dirt will sometimes stick...we strip the core...clean up the cable, lube it up and put it back it....
check if anything is catching on your accerlator pedal...

mine did it aswell

, normally stright after i get out of water or mud

. check the return spring make sure it pulls hard and stright

. also make sure you have a bit of slack in the cable at idle, i found this was the problem with mine

. it seemed right but then it would rev up. i put a little more slack in the cable and now no more problem

i have had the same problem though not as severe, all i did was unclip the cable at the carby, remove the rubber grommet to the metal sheeth and spray lube down the sheeth. Also on the inside at the pedal i sprayed where the cable comes out, once sprayed move the cable in and out of the sheeth with the pedal, this should free it up alot.

i think i found the problem - yet to test drive though...
the excess cable outside the set screw on the carby was dragging on the metal below it... i've trimmed the cable and tightened my return spring on the carby throttle arm, still feels responsive on pick up and its certainly decelerating faster (there was a slight lag before between foot off the throttle and an actual response).
I also sprayed some silicone lube around the cable housings inside and out to be sure.
Thanks guys =)

I see you have fixed the prob but somthing to look out 4 with the weber if the return spring is too strong it can wear out the throttle body bushes which causes an air leak which causes revs to rise and fall. Even by spraying carb cleaner around the base at idle didnt pick up mine as it didnt leak at idle reguarly just when you wernt looking for it
