HJ45 - Starting Build Up - Questions?

Hi All

I picked up about a year ago a 1980 HJ45 Wagon. Had been sitting for 2 years but has minimal rust. I have driven it a few times after fixing the clutch hydraulics and fitting welsh plugs to the old engine.

I have now decided after selling my 80 that I would like to build the HJ45.

I have a few question before I start and wonder if any one can help;

I am looking at fitting a Big Block Chev - Will the current manual box and transfer case / diffs hold up?

I am thinking of fitting 38" Tyres for offroad. Suspension is stock so what setup would you recommend to get enough room to flex such big tyres.

I want to fit power steering. What is recommend to convert this from.

Basically this build up will be started with body being stripped from chassis and then ground up.

Any information would be appreciated and I am sure I will have plenty more questions.

Cheers

Jared

www.ih8mud.com is a great resource for Landcruiser info, assuming you havn't looked already. Make sure you take lots of pics of the build.

Spring over axle, reverse shackles,78 series rear leaf pack,60 series power steering pump and box,60 series diffs (wider than 40s)offset wheels( cause 38s could rub on chassis and springs at full lock) Thats providing you still want to play with leaf springs i guess!

go coils!!! ;)oh yeah the running gear will most likely break with a big block and 38s

Awesome. Well I have found a donor vehicle for some of my parts. It is an FJ45 tray back. It has 350 Chev fitted and Disc Brakes and Power Steering. All this will be stripped and prepared to fit to the troopie.

Just need to find some space to start stripping it.

Will be selling the FJ45 when I have finished and I am considering refitting all my standard parts back to it. There is a lot of rust in the cab.
