I dont think I could affort the 4.2TD but I was just after advice in what I should be avoiding. I have around $16000 to spend. Any advice on this would be great.

Cody for 16G's you wont see anything relatively new mate.
Maybe an average TB45(petrol). 2.8 deisel or maybe even an early 3L deisel

4.5's are thirsty baut have good power
2.8's can be a bit sluggish and have had some cold start problems etc but there are lost of extras available to help on the power stakes.
3L's.......stay away from a pre 01 model unless its had an engine swap with the upgraded block even then use caution.

Good luck with your search mate

what he said.. but 2.8's can be had for real cheap.. no powerhouse, but will keep going...

what do you want it for? Towing? Touring? that will help answer your question.
