small hammer to the face. this removes its ability to make decisions about when and when not to work.
also works for the missus

if we an geta serious answer to this, it would be great. i have the same issue but never bothred to do anything but if someone knows a common problem it would be great and even better if they know a remedie for the problem......

do you know if its the tacho sender or the guage? You should be able to find the sender from a wreckers to test.. although i have had a dodgy guage on my bj42 (confirmed by replacing the sender)..
they are known to go due to their location and getting covered in crap.. (at least with the 40's not sure about the 60's)

hi Nat84
I have had this problem before it turned out to be a
loose connection in the circuit board on the back of the tacho
after great inspection of the board i found a hairline crack in a solder
joint so a bit of work with sordering iron and it hasen't missed a beat
i hope this helps

from what you said about hitting it you have a solder joint come loose
so look for any sort of inperfetion in the solder joins mine was a minor
crack on solder joint simmlar to this on this link
this isnt of the tacho it was just to show what to look for
