3F - 80 series

I have been told that the 3F came out in the early 80s. Is this true, and if so when did they change over?
3F Engines were used in early 80 Series in Carby form in manual transmissions & fuel injected in Automatic transmission until the 1FZFE was released in 1992 (8/92 I think but it could have been 10/92) as i am having a memory loss moment
