Jumping out of low range

My 93 paj has 50mm body lift, when i fitted had to modify both sticks to clear body.

When in low range floating between decel and accel occasionaly jumps from low to neutral.

The stick clears the body by 5mm in low and 5mm in 2wd.

Not sure if i should be chasing a different gear stick boot or have a detent problem within the transfer.

Its getting old well over 320k now but the whole driveline is as quiet as a mouse.

Is there anything common with the transfer or is there a better boot i can fit to releve pressure on the stick?

I think you will need more than 5mm gap. Open the bonnet and give the engine a rev from idle and watch how much it twists.

The gearbox bush on the side of the box is also probably worn out and can allow alot of sideways movement. replacing that may help.

When I installed a 2" body lift a couple years ago, I had the same problem: low-range shifter wouldn't stay in gear. It cleared the body just fine, but the rubber boot was exerting more force than normal on the shifter. I ended up slicing a vertical slit on the front and rear of the boot at the top 1-inch or so to relieve the pressure the boot was putting on the shifter. It's never been a problem since.

Ill try and remove the boot on the long weekend comming up got a trip planned, will see if it happens then or if it touches, was hopeing not to have to, hate to think of the heat and dust it will let in.

i did a 3 inch bodylift to my pajero, all i had to do was cut some of the floor so the gearstick would go into reverse... also there is 2 rubber boots on the transfer and gear stick.. 1 is the conveluded one that you see and there is another flat rubber one... remove the flat rubber one and what i have to do is slide the boot for the transfer lever underneath the floor and i have had no problems with that for low range....
