Gearbox question

OK, about to tackle the replacement of my Feroza gearbox, and at the same time swap my old transfer case onto the new box. As most people will be aware, the Feroza transfer is NOT a divorced case, which makes the whole job a lot more complicated than it needs be, especially when I'll have minimal physical help from others.

Question: HAS ANYBODY HERE SPLIT THE GEARBOX AND TRANSFER CASE BEFORE?

If so, is it a straight bolt back together job (apart from the gasket between the two), or are there other things that make it more difficult?

Any relevant comments muchly appreciated.

When I had mine rebuilt they discovered water in the transfer case  and the shifter had siezed in 2WD. They cleaned it all up and luckily it was OK, but after refitting they discovered it was stuck in 4WD, so the mech told me he pulled the transfer case off the back of the gearbox in the vehicle to save time. So, it can be done.

Cool, thanks David. I thought this may be the case, but wanted to make sure in order to avoid any last minute surprises.

Ok, thanks guys. I got the box done today. Soooo much easier doing a gearbox with a hoist and tranny jack. I went to a family friend to find out how much he could do the swap for for me, booked it in for today and he basically let me do it myself to save the $$$

Tranny case swap was pretty straightforward, but may have an issue with the clutch fork??? I'll take her for a bit of a run tomorrow to see if it sorts itself out.

Also finally fitted my extractors. Sounds fully sick, funny how Ferozas have an almost Boxer Engine sound with a decent exhaust system. And a nice improvement in lower rev torque too.

Haha, and may end up doing a bit of occasional Saturday work for the fella who's workshop I used :D

Good to hear, and extra torque to boot ........

What's with the clutch fork ?

Should I throw the stuff in the back and perhaps a tow rope ?

Ah, the art of subtle deception - if it sounds good, lots assume it goes the same. Only those who have been out with it know the bitter truth.

Sometimes I think there arn't enough "angry Squirrels" to go around.

duno about sounding like a Boxer, With a cheap bullet resonator in place of the cat and a coby at the back @ 3500rpm mine sounds exactly like a Continental O-300A (Cessna 172 engine to you non aircraft geeks  ) scare the sh*t out of a lot of people .... most are looking for the crashing plane, pity it wasnt powered by one come to think of it .. they put out 145hp :D
