Basically any oil will do for the td42.
GTX diesel is readily available at supercheap in 10L drum and will do the job - its a 15w40 which is spot on what nissan recommend for our temp range and if your motor isnt screwed then it'll be fine.
Fuel filter bleed is easy. Undo the filter, remount the water sensor float etc and check all the seals on the new one. Clean the float assembly in clean diesel if required (it probably will be required) and fit the water drain to the new filter not forgetting or pinching the O ring. Screw new filter on and do it up handtight (not tight enough to thread the damn thing). Make sure when you're doing it up the O rings are not doubled up and are all in place. Run a bit of diesel over them just to get them moist first too. Undo the little plastic tab on the side of the lift pump body and start pumping the primer. When diesel eventually flows cleanly out the bleed tab, do up the tab (again not too tight as to break it - theyre easily broken).
Remember to have a CLEAN rag handy to wipe down surfaces and catch flying diesel. It spreads like you would not believe. Dont worry too much about spilt diesel in the engine bay - the fuel filter areas of the diesel patrols are about the only areas I havent seen them begin to rust
Remember to be clean - dirt in diesel fuel system is a bad thing.
One of the best things you can buy is a haynes manual for the vehicle. Theyre about $50 and haynes/gregories make one for the petrols and one for the diesels - grab the diesel one obviously.
Don't use a ryco RAF55 air filter - it fits but the one in mine didn't actually have a tight fit in the aircleaner housing - you could hear it vibrating at idle. I fitted the valvoline equivalent and all is good (i don't run the pre filter).
Cheers

Memory tells me it was 0.35mm hot for the Aug93 GQ TD42. Dont quote me on it though

You could try a genuine nissan air filter.
IIRC they were under $30. for the big oval one!
cheers

Adjusting lntake and Exhaust Valve Clearance
Adjustment should be made while engine is warm but not
running.
1. Set No. 1 cylinder in top dead center on its compression
stroke, and adjust valve clearance 1, 2, 4, 5, 8 and 9.
2. Set No. 6 cylinder in top dead center on its compression
stroke, and adjust valve clearance 3, 6, 7, 10, 11 and 12.
Valve clearance:
lntake 1, 3, 5, 7, 9 and 11.
0.35 mm (0.014 in)
Exhaust 2, 4, 6, 8, 10 and 12
0.35 mm (0.014 in)
Adjusting screw lock nuts m: 15 - 20 N-m
(1.5 - 2.0 kg-m, 11 - 14 ft-lb)
use fleet guard filters, most truck mobs have them. there is a whole thread on here about part no's and filters in general.. cant be bothered searching though.
The red material (genuine) filters are oiled and will cake up in no time flat with bulldust ect... use a paper filter..
i replaced my fuel filter with a adapter to fit a CAV type filter, which can be had fo $5-$10, they also work better... was $120 for the adapter, but standard filters were $75 from repco, so it is well worth it..

source you sump oil from a truck parts place. Heaps cheaper than supercrap.
I buy it my the 20l drum, But i use Castrol RX Super, only. even the mower runs it so it should last 1million kays too

yes but im not spoon feeding
www.valvoline.com.au
all the information is on the website. and as i mentioned before, don't buy a ryco airfilter (it might not fit snug in the airbox) and you only need the one big oval airfilter if you buy from supercheap etc. the other filter to suit the pre cleaner is a normal air filter not a higher flowing precleaner type.
