Sub tank filler on 80 series

Having some problems with my sub tank filler. Since I have had the car it has always been a bit stiff, so I decided to spray some WD40 down the cable. Worked a treat and now the cable pulls out easily and is quite smooth.

Problem is, it no longer switches the filler from main to Sub, and I cant fill the sub tank. Obviously the cable has come apart somewhere. I think it has come off at the tank end.

After sticking my head underneath the car and consulting the manual, I still can find where the cable runs too and where the valve is that switches between tanks. It is a 96 pov pack.

Can anyone tell me where the valve is and how I can access it to try and find out why it is not switching tanks anymore.

Cheers

The control knob connects to a flap that diverts fuel to the front or rear fuel tank filler necks

This flap is located in the fuel filler neck not far below the filler cap

At this point the fuel filler neck divides from 1 pipe in to 2 pipes in a upside down Y shape

If you remove the splash sheild that protects the filler neck from behind the rear wheel you will see the mechanism & may be able to see what is causing it to stick without pulling the filler neck out of the vehicle

Hey Don, i know you ! :D

Agree it should be easy to access once the rear wheel arch cover is removed. (as well as all the mud)

Okay
Had a look last night and the mechanism all appears to work fine. I guess it is time to pull out the filler neck and have a look. All I can think of now is that the flap what changes tanks over has broken from the shaft or something.

And guys your right, where did all that mud come from.

Mental note - if filler flap is missing.....

Bugger.

Main tank is fairly easy for inspection - sub is a PITA.
