I'm about to buy a PZJ70. Just wondering if anyone knows of any common problems with these.

Also, what's needed to fit 35s?

Cheers

they have a cylinder missing, the clutch and flywheel can give bothers, swapping to 1hz is easy enough...to fit 35's you need a suspension lift and a tyre fitter.

I own a PZJ70 on 35's, they are a good truck. As dow50r has said the clutch and more specifically, the flywheel can give troubles (they are a dual mass flywheel) mine destroyed itself but it was a simple job to convert it to a standard HZJ clutch setup using all toyota parts.

The 1PZ engine mates to the 'lighter duty' R151F gearbox and if running 35's with a heavy load or towing they can drop the 5th gear similair to how the 78 series cruiser do.

Apart from that the only problems they suffer are generic to all 1990+ 70 series. In fact the 1PZ, despite being down one cylinder, would perform as well as my mates 1HZ 75 series, possibly due to the lighter weight of the shorties and the 4.56 ratio diff gears.

If you've got any specific questions then I'll try to help out.
PS: (I've now pulled the 1PZ engine to replace it with a 1HD-FT in the quest for more power!)

Cheers,
Dan

Thanks guys for the info.

How much lift did you need to fit the 35's? 2 inch spring and body lift?

4" lift (2 inch body + 2 inch suspension) was ample.. you could probably do it with just a 2" lift and moving the front axle forward 25 - 30mm by re-drilling the spring perches ( search the archives if you dont know how to do this)
