GQ PTO

hey guys....

I need to confirm something about a PTO box for a GQ. I know this has been posted but I am getting nothing in the search or in the bible.

I just need to confirm that the PTO box is different for a GQ than for a MQ. I originally thought they were the same because they look the same. But a post on this forum some time ago stated that I was wrong and they are not the same.

thanks

so would i be correct in assuming that if i had a MQ set up with pto winch (thomas) all i would need to transfer it to my gq would be the box that bolts to the g/box and maybe alter the shaft a little - are the winch units the same??? - just need to make it fit the bar.

The winch's themselves are also different, can't remember how, but unfortunately, different

Ian,
The PTO output on those MQ winches I got for you were definately different to the GQ ones.

Patroler,
Your Q is a bit harder. I don't know enough about the Thomas winches, but I understand there is only one winch head configuration (correct me if I'm wrong), and different shafts are used on different veicles. If it is currently on an MQ and you want to fit to a GQ, the winch itself should swap over ok, but you will need the GQ PTO output and different (or just modify) shafts and mounting brackets.

The genuine Nissan MQ winch is different to the GQ one, whereby the centre shaft is longer on the MQ. The worm wheels are same, but worm drive input exits out the front of the housing on MQ. Freespool end is the same.

Hi just got off the phone with the thomas distributer here in vic and he mentioned the Thomas 8000lb winches have a standard ration of 50:1 which based on 2000rpm and 200mm of cable average on the drum it gives roughly 8m per minute

not sure how this goes against the eletrics.

Thanks for that 8 meters per minute is about 26 feed and from what i can find a standard 12 volt highmount will pull 22 feet at 2000lb and 6.1 at 8000lb
and the 24 volt option only adds about 1 foot per minute so the pto is fairly quick compared to a standard electric.
Im not sure what the set ups like gigglepin and wazzas creation are getting with twin 6hp motors maybe someone will share there results with one of these setups but bang for buck the pto i pretty good value

thanks for confirming this guys....

Now I have another favor to ask.

A friend of mine in South America is building a 1978 G60 into one hell of a beast. He has GQ front and rear diffs under it, a GQ 5spd and x-fer custom mated to the original P40 engine, SoA, ARB lockers and some other goodies. This truck is really gnarly, floorboards are like an easy 40" off the ground! He really has his heart set on using a PTO winch. So I could very much use the assistance of an Aussie or Kiwi in finding us the GQ PTO box. All we need is the box...everything else we can source here in S.A. We are willing to pay all expenses and possibly a finders fee.

Please pm me if you can help, my response may be slow though as I am currently in S.America.

I'll have a look around Ian. I've got to find one for another dude as well.

Expect to pay about $200 - $400.
