Sway Bars

Random thought - if removing sway bars is illegal (is it?) and disconnects open the doors for litigation lawyers, is there any legislation about how stiff the sway bar must be? Can I get a really scrawny sway bar made, which does very little to limit articulation, and stay within the law?
If I have a swaybar connected, where does the law say how stiff it must be?

aelby sway bars will make you up a swaybar to whatever you want. they qouted me $250 a year ago to make one up for the front of my car which was shaped so that it folded upwards and clipped up against the front of the guards. never got it done though.

Guys if you do a search on the Articulator it should answer your questions.
Removing or disconnecting your front swaybar does help, allows full independent wheel travel (tyres stuff nicely up into the guards) worth about 2-3" in extra travel plus the added smoothness offroad.
I've removed my rear bar completely and have a dash operated (air controlled) front swaybar disconnect which works extremely well.

Grant, the website has been taken offline coz I was sick of answering emails.
I don't think at this stage we will be making anymore unfortunately.

I want one of the Articulators so badly. I know you are sick of hearing about them, and I gather you are not making them anymore. Any chance you can give a little design advise so I can get one made myself?
Please, pretty please!
Thanks heaps
Jeff

That's not good news at all Frank - the sway bar disconnect was my next mod before I blew the motor (and a preferable mod to an engine rebuild).
Why no more?.....Lack of interest?.......costs?.......too many stoopid questions?
I'm still keen to get one.
When I'm back on the road (feels like it will never happen) I wouldn't mind catching up and having a better look at the way you set up the system on the jabber.

Ok I spoke to Barry and he is willing to do another run of 20 units.
We worked out a better way of mass producing them.
The base unit will have the ability to retrofit the pnuematic ram at a later date so as to have in cabin control like mine which works brilliantly.
He will get this on the go next week so they should be ready in 4-6 weeks.
He still has to find a way to mass produce the air ram which was a hybrid unit as we could not find an off the shelf piston with the required throw with the dimensions we required.

Make that 19 units available.
Ones mine.

$250 for the base unit.
We haven't worked out a price for the air operated set up as yet.
Cheers, Frank.

So can these be fitted to most IFS set ups?
Been trying to track down an articulator for a while now, and an in cab controlled unit would be PERFECT!
If they'll fit an Isuzu, I'll take one.

So I guess I should wait untill your economy gets out of the crapper..... or I can wait for the aussie one to tank. Kidding.
Ok looks like that will be a summer toy when I am back at work.

Doug, its actually that our economy is doing great, which is why it will cost you more. You see, you get less aussie dollars for your US dollars, hence it costs you more. what you want is our economy to go INTO the crapper, so our dollar becomes worthless, and thus you get lots of them for your US dollars.....

This is not necessarily a good thing. For example, US is really big market for ARB. With exchange rate going up the locker which used to cost $550 US now should be $800 US. If ARB raises prices so high sales are going to go down substantially since people will look at other domestic options. Another option would be to bite the bullet and keep prices lower maybe raise a little bit but that means lower revenue and hence less available money. That can lead to reduction in new development, could be a reason behind set back in development front locker for Pajero. The worst option would be laying-off people from manufacturing department.
On the other hand US will benefit from say selling Warn winches with more units sold and/or larger margin of profit.

Frank,
When I spoke to you at the Wandin day you seemed a little surprised that the front sway bar was only 25mm thick on my shorty. (that doesn't sound too good does it)
Have just checked the measurement and it's definately 25mm.
Any inkling when we will start to see finished products (not push'n - away for 10 day break as of Friday night so won't be floating around)

my first swaybar was 26mm then i repplaced it with a 28mm(i think) bar off a diesel LWB which is good cause i am kinda sitting up in the clouds and appreciate the reduced body roll.

Certainly not going to replace it with a bigger one. I thought about removing it all together as body roll isn't too bad considering the heght but decided against it.

Blair, all the Gen 2 swaybar diameter listings I have start at 26mm thats why I was surprised.
It will be a while for the disconnect my t/case is the priority at the moment for the Challenge.
It will be a few months yet.

No Probs.
Got the bill from the mechanics for all the replacement parts and installation of the motor.
Gunna have to recover from that first anywho.
